Excel can be a great tool for organizing information and solving mathematical equations. But it also requires a lot of time and patience to learn all the tools that it offers. If you want to be more efficient in Excel, you should create daily tabs for your tasks.
When you open an Excel file, the application displays a welcome page (FigureA 1-2). Then it opens a blank worksheet, which is a grid of cells where you type in data and formulas. When you want to create a new worksheet, click the aNew command in backstage view or use a shortcut key.
Youall learn how to move around the worksheet grid, enter data and make calculations as you go. When youare finished, you can save the document or close it out to return to a previous workbook.
The spreadsheet is a grid of rows and columns with numbered and lettered cells between them. Each cell is assigned a reference, which tells Excel where it is located on the worksheet.
A cellas contents can be manipulated by clicking on it with the mouse or by double-clicking inside the cell to put it in edit mode. Once you are in edit mode, you can change the contents of the cell and then press Enter to accept the changes or Esc to cancel them.
If youare not satisfied with the way that the cells in your spreadsheet look, you can resize them easily. To do this, drag the column borders to a wider width as shown in FigureA 1-5. Then, a tooltip appears to let you know how wide the columns are.
You can also drag the left and right edges of a row to rearrange it. This is useful if you have many rows and would like to arrange them in a different way, such as by number or by length.
Another way to change the look of the columns is to use formatting tools, which are displayed in a toolbar on the bottom of each column. These tools help you add or remove fonts, colors, and more.
Once you have the formatting you need, you can apply it to all cells on a sheet, or just to a few of them. To do this, select the desired settings and click OK.
Some of these settings have multiple options, so itas important to choose the one that suits you best. For example, you can have the column headers show up in all cells on the sheet, or just those that contain numbers.
Creating daily tabs isnat the most complex task in Excel, but it will take up some of your time and attention. This is especially true if you have a lot of projects that require frequent use.
The daily tabs will help you quickly and efficiently complete a series of simple tasks. These tasks might include renaming or re-ordering sheets in your workbook, changing the color of tabs in your workbook, or adding a bunch of new sheets with specific names and tab colors.
